Euro-Office for your organisation

Want colleagues or students to work on documents together, in the browser, on your own servers? Then you need the Document Server, connected to Nextcloud or Odoo.

What it is

The Document Server provides the editors for text, spreadsheets, presentations and PDF in the browser, including real-time co-editing. It is not a standalone application: users, permissions and files come from the platform you connect it to.

From practice

VoxCloud, which makes this site, runs the Document Server for its own Nextcloud environments. Three things we learned along the way:

  1. Pin a fixed version in your configuration, such as :v9.3.7, not :latest. Then you decide when to upgrade. Note that the tags start with a v.
  2. Test a new version with a real conversion, such as a presentation to PDF, before you put it into use. A green health check and a successful connection test do not prove the editor works.
  3. Give the container enough memory and keep an eye on it. Running short looks like a network error.
